What is Star Musician?
Star Musician is a culturally focused talent competition, seeking the best amateur Persian singers and musicians between 15 – 35 years of age, and providing them with a unique platform to perform. It aims to be the leading talent competition for the Persian Diaspora, with dual goals of preserving the musical heritage of Iran and nurturing the growth of new singers and musicians, by exposing all forms of Persian music to a broader audience.
Our panel of distinguished judges, which include Persian pop icon Andy Madadian, legendary producer Farokh "Elton" Ahi, Grammy nominee guitarist Ardeshir Farah, renowned lyricist Paksima Zakipour and the highly sought after Director Siros Kerdouni, will narrow the list of contestants to 40 quarter-finalists (20 vocalists, 20 instrumentalists). These 40 contestants will be featured during a broadcast program on Ti TV, the largest Persian Television Network as well as RadioJavan.com – the premiere Internet Radio Station for Persians.
The quarter-finalists will have their submission video posted on StarMusician.com. From then on, the contestants’ fate is in the hands of the public, who will vote to narrow the list to 20 semi-finalists (10 vocalists, 10 instrumentalists). The semi-finalists will then submit a second video performance as the public is asked once again to vote, to determine the Finalists.
The 10 Finalists (5 Vocalists, 5 Instrumentalists) will then submit their third and final video performance and the public will vote one last time for their favorite contestant. The Finalists will be invited to Los Angeles, California, where they will perform before a live audience of 2000 guests, at the Saban Theatre on June 9th, 2012. At the Awards Ceremony, the two winners from each respective category will be announced based on their cumulative average of all three videos as voted upon by the public. The Ceremony will be aired on TI TV, RadioJavan.com along with StarMusician.com.
The winner of Star Musician in each category will go on to record a song and music video written, produced and directed by our judges, and aired on Ti TV and RadioJavan.com.

How are the finalist selected?
The first Video submissions will be judged on a rolling basis by a panel of judges (“Judging Panel”) selected by Producer. All decisions of the Producer and the Judging Panel are final on all aspects of the Contest. Submissions will be scored on a 0.00 – 10.00 scale by all judges and divided by the total number of judges, which will give the Contestant one average score.
The Judging Panel will select the forty (40) Contestants (20 vocalists and 20 instrumentalists) with the highest scoring submissions as the forty (40) Quarter-finalists subject to verification of eligibility. The video submissions of the Quarter-finalists will be uploaded on the website, where end users of the site will have the opportunity to critically evaluate the Submissions according to the criteria set forth above and vote a maximum of once per video during the voting period.
The ten (10) highest scoring vocalists and ten (10) highest scoring instrumentalists within the designated voting period will move on to the next round as one of the top twenty (20) semi-finalists.
Semi-Finalists will then be asked to submit a second video performance. End users of the website will once again vote for their favorite contestants and the five (5) highest scoring vocalists and five (5) highest scoring instrumentalists will be invited to perform Live at the Awards Ceremony.
Prior to the Awards Ceremony, the ten (10) Finalists (5 vocalists and 5 instrumentalists) will be asked to submit one last video performance. End users of the website will vote for the last time for their favorite Finalists, to help determine the winners. The two winners in each respective category will be announced at the Awards Ceremony at the Saban Theatre in June 9th, 2012.
Finalists should expect to arrive in Los Angeles, California at least four (4) days prior in preparation of the Final live event.
The Producer reserves the right to pick fewer than forty (40) Finalists or no Finalists, or to extend the Submission Period if in its sole discretion, it does not receive a sufficient number of eligible and qualified entries.
